Cloak of Resistance +5
- Cost: 65,000 gp
- Weight: 3 lbs.
- Family: Cloak of Resistance
A cloak is a large, flowing overgarment, meant to protect the wearer from the elements. Clasped around the neck and draped over the shoulders and back, often with a hood, a cloak is typically long enough to reach the ankles and voluminous enough to be pulled closed at the front and completely cover all of a busy adventurers equipment. When not drawn forward, cloaks typically are worn draped over the back, where their large size and generous amounts of material allow them to sweep and flow in finely dramatic style...if that's your sort of thing.
Cloaks can be finely cut and heavily decorated, or they can be heavy, sturdy affairs of oilcloth and leather, with rivets for reinforcement. They come in a myriad of styles, from fine mounted hunting capes to huge shapeless ponchos. Cloaks can be made of furs or cloth, leather, woven chains, living vines, writhing ectoplasmic tentacles, cascades of mist, layered feathers, and a thousand other things besides. Even fairly plain cloaks made of simple fabrics are often colored richly and are lavishly decorated, and may have flakes or strands of steel, iron, or even exotic materials displayed within.
A cloak of resistance is a type of cloak which has been enchanted with powerful and flexible protective magics, and are incredibly versatile protective items, blunting or stopping hundreds or thousands of varied effects. As a result, they are a foundational item for many adventurers.
Given their iconic status, a Cloak of Resistance is a device that is distinctive, even if it looks like nothing but plain burlap. Cloaks drape themselves around the wearer with undeniable majesty and follow your movements with a fluid, languid sweep and flow, such that even the most humble of Cloaks, upon careful examination, displays the might of its wearer.
The owner of this magic item must wear it continuously for 24 hours to attune it to their aura, and until that time has passed, it provides no benefits to the wearer.
