Prerequisites: Caster Level 21
Benefit: A shredding spell deals damage to target creatures' equipment and nearby unattended objects. A spell must normally inflict damage for Shredding Spell to be applied to it.
A Shredding Spell with an Area of Effect inflicts one Sunder upon every unattended item in the area of effect. Against larger objects such as the ground or walls, inflicts one Sunder success per five foot square. All unattended objects in the area of effect suffer one Sunder. Any creatures in the area of effect also suffer one sunder to a single piece of equipment they are wearing.
A Shredding Spell which specifies one or more targets (i.e. not an area of effect) instead inflicts a single sunder on that creature's equipment per ray or missile targeting the creature.
Sunder effects are applied against the first piece of non-Broken equipment the creature has on the following list:
- Shield
- Armor
- Item held in main hand
- Item held in off hand
- Helmet
- Gloves
- Boots
- Belt
- Bracers
- Back item (cloaks, etc.)
- Neck item
- Ring
Note that natural armor and weapons cannot be affected by sunders. See the Sunder combat maneuver for details.
Level Increase: +4 (A shredding spell uses up a spell slot four levels higher than the spell's actual level.)
