Condition Severity: Moderate
Who's there? Stay back!
Effects
- The first time each round that anyone provokes an attack of opportunity from you, friend or foe, you must make an attack of opportunity against them.
- If you have more than one option for basic melee attacks, you may choose whichever one you like.
- Furthermore, you must fight defensively (-4 to all attacks, +2 to AC) until this status effect wears off, and cannot take full attack actions.
- This is a fear condition.
Ended By
If the ability, trap, or effect description includes specific directions for how the condition is ended, then that is the primary means of ending this condition. In many cases, it is the only way to end the condition. If nothing is specifically listed for ending the condition, then the following methods can be used to end it, instead:
- You may make a saving throw at the end of each of your turns, as a free action, to attempt to end the Startled condition. The DC for this saving throw is the same DC as the original effect. If successful, the Startled condition ends.
- If not cleared, Startled automatically ends at the end of the encounter.
