A Magic Wand is the classic instrument of magic. The Sorcerer whipping the flows of aura to their raging will with a mere twig is the classic example of a magic Wand, and indeed, the 'standard' representation of a wand is the slender, light, roughly cylindrical device about the size of a large paint brush. For simplicity's sake, we present all Wands as such 'magic paintbrush' devices, but like all things 'magical', that is not the end of the story.
At the GM's discretion, nearly ANYTHING small and convenient can be a 'Wand'. A fine ivory comb, a highly decorated folding fan of rice paper and silk thread, a hairpin of ancient amber, a cloak-brooch of scrimshawed jade, a roc-feather writing quill, a simple wooden kitchen spoon, a teacher's ruler, a craftsmans awl, a workman's framing hammer, heck, even a crudely hammered iron nail, all these things and more, can ALL be examples of more unusual 'Wands'. Players are encouraged to be creative in the appearance of their Wands, and GM's are encouraged to allow that creativity.
The one hard rule of Wands is they must use a hand to work, they only require only one hand, and they are such innocuous items that they cannot be used as weapons and thus, cannot threaten or provide flanks. If you want such things, we encourage you to look at Rods or Staves.
Aside from that, make YOUR magic wand YOURS, and have fun!
