At character creation, the character class you choose at level 1 is also considered the character's Favored Class. This is the "primary" class of the character, and cannot be changed, once selected. Any other character classes the player selects during the career of their character (via Multi-Classing) are considered "secondary" classes. If the character is using Dual-Classing, then both classes are considered their favored class.
A favored class grants you the following features:
- The number of attacks you can perform during a Full Attack Action.
- Multi-classed characters can perform the highest number of attacks available to any one class they possess (they do not add the number of attacks from multiple classes together).
- The base saving throws for the class.
- Multi-classed characters gain the base saving throws from their first (primary) class only. They never gain the base saving throw bonuses from secondary classes, even if they are dual-classed, or even if they take the Eclectic feat.
- The base AC of the class.
- Multi-classed characters always use the highest available base AC from any one class they possess.
- The Bailiwick skill for the class. Bailiwick skills are the only skills in the game that a character cannot put skill ranks into, unless they possess a character class that grants them access to the skill.
- Multi-classed characters can put ranks into all Bailiwick skills they get access to from character classes the possess.
- The Linked Skill to that character class' Bailiwick skill. Any skill ranks a character puts into their class' Bailiwick skill also puts a free skill rank in their linked skill. Remember that you can never have more ranks in a skill than your total character level (so if you keep your Bailiwick skill ranks maxed out, your linked skill will be maxed out for free).
- Multi-classed characters gain the linked skill from their first (primary) class only. They never gain the linked skill from secondary classes, even if they are dual-classed, or even if they take the Eclectic feat.
- Each character class gains a single Favored Class Feature that is only available to characters who select that class at character creation, thereby making it their favored class.
- Multi-classed characters gain the Favored Class Feature of their first (primary) class only. They never gain the Favored Class Feature from secondary classes, unless they are dual-classed, or if they take the Eclectic feat.
Your favored class must always be the same as the class you choose at level 1. This prevents situations where a non-spell casting favored class is selected, and a spell casting class is leveled up, causing that player to be stuck with a bailiwick skill that doesn't include the ability to read magic or learn new spells.
