Rod of Wholesomeness
- Cost: 500 gp
- Weight: 4 lbs.
This rod is in the shape of a huge cooking utensil, most often a pair of cooking forks, although huge spatulas, tongs, spoons, and ladles are also sometimes seen. They appear clean and ready for use, shedding all dirt and debris with magical ease. When activated and touched to eligible material, the smell of wholesome cookery fills the air, and the sizzles and bubbles of cooking are clearly heard.
Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast a Purify Food and Drink spell, using up one charge from the rod.
This rod does not prevent subsequent natural decay or spoilage. Unholy Water and similar food and drink of significance is spoiled by Purify Food and Drink, but the spell has no effect on creatures of any type nor upon Magic Potions.
Water, urine, blood, sewage, and similar liquids weigh about 8 pounds per gallon. One cubic foot of eligible liquid contains roughly 8 gallons and weighs about 60 pounds. A cubic foot of wholesome food weighs around 50 pounds. A cubic foot of food and water is minimal rations for four medium creatures for one day. Small creatures eat half as much, Large creatures eat twice as much, and food requirements are doubled again for each size category above Large. (Two cubic feet per day for Huge, 4 cubic feet per day for Gargantuan, 8 cubic feet per day for Colossal, etc.)
You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
