Transformative (Melee Weapon Magic Property)

Enchant Cost: +4

A transformative weapon alters its shape at its wielder's command, becoming any other melee weapon of the same general size and handedness; the weapon's categorization as simple, martial, or exotic is irrelevant.

All successful attacks by a transformative weapon add 1d6 of bonus physical damage of the same type as the base weapon damage of its current form. If the transformative weapon is changed such that its material bypasses the DR of a struck foe, then it does a second 1d6 of bonus physical damage. If it is transformed so that its damage type bypasses a DR due to damage type, it also adds a second 1d6 of bonus damage per successful strike. If a transformative weapon is shaped so that it bypasses DR based upon both material and damage type, it deals a total +3d6 bonus damage per attack.

The wielder of a transformative weapon may choose to do piercing, slashing, or bludgeoning damage, or, the damage type normally inflicted by the weapon it is mimicking, at the choice of the wielder. This means a battle axe's normal hacking damage may be changed to bludgeoning, for example.

The wielder of a transformative weapon may choose to change the material type, as well. You may choose between bladesilver, ambergold, and dolemetal. Only one material type may be on a weapon at a given time.

For example, a medium transformative longsword can take the shape of any other medium one-handed melee weapon, such as a scimitar, flail, or trident, but not a medium light or two-handed melee weapon (such as a medium short sword or a medium greatsword). It can even take the shape of comparable weapons of different size categories. For example, a small greatsword is a two-handed slashing weapon for a small character, but is a one-handed slashing weapon for a medium character, which is very similar to a medium longsword; a small transformative greatsword can thus become an actual medium longsword, usable by a medium creature without the -2 penalty for using a weapon of the wrong size.

The weapon retains all of its enhancement bonuses and other magical weapon properties while transformed. It gains the mundane weapon properties of whatever weapon it is shaped into, such as stout, concealable, brutal, etc.

When unattended, the weapon reverts to its true shape.
