A creature with lesser climb has a +8 racial bonus on all Movement (Climb) checks. The creature must make a Movement (Climb) check to climb any wall or slope with a DC higher than 0, but it can always choose to take 10, even if rushed or threatened while climbing. The creature retains its Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) while climbing, and opponents get no special bonus to their attacks against it. If a creature with a Lesser Climb speed chooses to make an accelerated climb as a move action, it moves at double its climb speed (or at its land speed, whichever is slower) and makes a single Movement (Climb) check at a -5 penalty. If it fails this check, it falls back to its starting position, wasting the move action.

Lesser climb does not allow inverted surfaces to be navigated (e.g. ceilings), without a very difficult Might check.

  • Prone: If a creature with Lesser Climb is knocked Prone, he falls to the ground, taking normal falling damage.
  • Difficult Terrain: A creature with Lesser Climb is subject to movement penalties caused by difficult terrain.
  • Overland Travel: Lesser Climb cannot be used for overland travel outside of combat.
