Rod of Airy Gifting
Rod of Airy Gifting
- Cost: 750 gp
- Weight: 4 lbs.
A rod of airy gifting is made of glassteel, an enchanted version of glass that is heavy and transparent, but extremely durable. The rod is covered in carvings of soaring sylphs, clouds, and stylized gusts of wind. When moved or swung, the rod seems to move more air than it should, almost like a fan, despite its narrow, cylindrical shape.
Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast an Air Bubble spell, using up one charge from the rod.
In addition, while this spell is in effect, affected creatures gain a +1 circumstance bonus to any saving throws made to resist inhalation-based poisons or effects. This bonus increases by an additional +1 per 7 creator levels of the rod, dropping fractions (i.e. +2 at creator level 7, +3 at creator level 14, +4 at creator level 21, +5 at creator level 28, and +6 at creator level 35). If the inhalation-based effect does not offer a saving throw, this provides no benefit.
The rod's spell effect can also be used offensively against one enemy creature that you successfully hit with a melee touch attack, as part of the same standard action as activating the rod. If the attack hits, the creature's face or other sensory organs are blasted with a hard slap of air as the bubble violently bursts around its head. Creatures so attacked suffer an amount of bludgeoning (physical, common) damage based on the creator level of the rod (see below), and become Dazzled until the end of the encounter.
If a targeted creature has spell resistance, the wielder of the rod must first make a Bailiwick skill check against the target's Maneuver Defense. If they equal or exceed this number, the spell is resolved against the target as normal. If the check fails, the spell is cast from the rod (using up a charge) but has no effect on the target creature.
This spell effect lays an Arcane Charge on the spell's target. If the target already has an arcane charge present, they must choose whether to accept the new spell effect (dismissing the existing one) or not (keeping their existing one). Only one arcane charge can ever be present on a target at a time.
You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
