Condition Severity: Weak
You have been temporarily cut off from some core piece of yourself.
Effects
- Diseases, poisons, spells, and other abilities can temporarily dilute your ability scores. This dilution does not actually reduce an ability, but it does apply a penalty upon the affected creature, depending on the ability score which is diluted.
- For every point of dilution you take to a single ability, you suffer the following effects, based on the ability which is damaged:
- Strength: -2 points of damage dealt with all attacks (including spells, ranged, etc), and -1 to your maximum hit point total (but not current hit points).
- Dexterity: -1 to AC (including Touch AC and Flat-footed AC), and -1 to your maximum hit point total (but not current hit points).
- Constitution: -5 to your maximum hit point total (but not current hit points).
- Intelligence: -2 to all skill checks (including non-INT-based skills), and -1 to your maximum hit point total (but not current hit points).
- Wisdom: -2 from all healing received, and -1 to your maximum hit point total (but not current hit points).
- Charisma: -1 to the save DC of any abilities you use, and -1 to your maximum hit point total (but not current hit points).
- The penalties above are cumulative for each point of ability dilution inflicted, though no ability score may ever be reduced below 1.
- If current hit points ever exceed your maximum hit points, your current hit points are immediately reduced to your maximum hit points.
- If your maximum hit points are ever reduced to 0, you fall unconscious. You cannot regain consciousness until you are able to have positive hit points again.
- If your maximum hit points are reduced to a negative amount equal to your CON score + your level, you die.
Ended By
If the ability, trap, or effect description includes specific directions for how the condition is ended, then that is the primary means of ending this condition. In many cases, it is the only way to end the condition. If nothing is specifically listed for ending the condition, then the following methods can be used to end it, instead:
- Unless otherwise stated by the spell, ability, or effect which inflicted it, all ability scores which have been diluted heal completely after a full night's rest, regardless of the number of points each of your ability scores were diluted.
- Ability dilution can also be healed through the use of spells, effects, or abilities. Lesser Restoration cures all dilution to a single ability score on the target creature, while Restoration cures all dilution to all ability scores on the target creature. (Greater Restoration is overkill for Ability Dilution, but otherwise acts as Restoration.)
