Oblivion (Melee Weapon Magic Property)
Oblivion (Melee Weapon Magic Property)
You must be level 21 or higher to equip, wield or wear an item with this property.
An Oblivion weapon is nondescript in appearance but possesses a mighty and terrible aura in combat that is unmistakable to anyone. When attacking a foe, the deadly magic gnaws at both their body, and at their ineffable essence, destroying them utterly from within, and from without.
When an Oblivion weapon strikes a creature, this weapon deals 3d6+36 points of bonus Obliteration (physical, rare) damage to the target, in addition to the normal damage inflicted by a weapon of that type. Activating this property requires a swift action, and it is not possible to inflict all of this weapons damage as obliteration damage. An Oblivion weapon counts as both corporeal and incorporeal. Because the weapon exists fully in both a corporeal and incorporeal state, it ignores the 50% reduction in damage that is normally granted to incorporeal creatures, or when the wielder and the target exist in different corporeal states. It also deals normal damage to targets in the same corporeal (or incorporeal) state as its wielder..
In addition, when an Oblivion weapon confirms a critical threat against a target, the target suffers three points of Essence Destruction.
The Essence Destruction inflicted by this weapon may be removed by the normal means. Note that Essence Destruction stacks, and the effects are applied on each successful critical hit.
Up to once per round while the property is active, an attack made with this weapon can blast a 6x6 square area (30 feet x 30 feet), of which one side or corner must be adjacent to the wielders space (a cone). All attacks must include at least one target within this area of affect that is within the wielder's normal melee reach (that is, this blast effect cannot be used to gain additional reach; it can only be used if it is triggered from an attack against a foe within reach and within the cone). The wielder rolls to hit all targets within the area of effect. All struck targets take the full weapon damage (including the bonus damage from this property). Damage is only rolled once, and that result is applied to all successfully struck targets.
This blast effect is optional, and the wielder can decide whether they are using it or not with each attack. Note that this blast effect is indiscriminate — it will hit both friend and foe alike, and it cannot be used with selective effects such as the Selective Spell feat. Choose where you blast carefully!
If the weapon has more reach than the size of the base area of effect, then at least one attack must be made into the area of effect of the blast, or the property cannot be used.
If this weapon is used with a single attack that targets multiple creatures as part of a single attack action (such as Cleave, Whirlwind Attack, or a Monk's Echoing Strike), the bonus damage applies to all creatures struck, but the blast effect can only be used once during the attack (not once for each target).
Due to the eerie and disturbing magical effects of this property, while the property is activated the wielder suffers a -5 penalty to all skills based upon their Charisma stat.
