Downing Strike (Ex)

Requires: Barbarian 1, Urban Mien
Benefit: Once per round as a free action, you can activate this rage power to add a free Trip (Combat Maneuver) to your next attack of opportunity provoked by an enemy leaving one of your threatened squares, as long as that attack of opportunity occurs before the start of your next turn. If the attack of opportunity hits, you deal damage as normal and also make a Might skill check against the same foe's Maneuver Defense value. If your trip attempt is successful, you deal damage (for the combat maneuver) and your foe becomes Quelled or Prone (depending on how great your success was) in the space it was attempting to leave. The Trip (Combat Maneuver) ignores abilities or feats which provide additional defenses against attacks of opportunity (e.g. Mobility (Feat)), but the Prone condition inflicted by the trip maneuver may be resisted as normal.
You may only activate Downing Strike during your turn. If you are unable to make an attack of opportunity against a foe leaving one of your threatened squares before the start of your next turn, or if the attack of opportunity misses, the benefit is lost.

Progression:

  • 11th Level: When you activate Downing Strike, you may use it against up to two different enemy creatures who trigger it, as long as you have sufficient attacks of opportunity available. The effects of Downing Strike on your attacks of opportunity only last until the start of your next turn.
  • 21st Level: When you activate Downing Strike, you also add a +2 rage bonus to your Might check when performing any Trip combat maneuvers before the start of your next turn.
  • 31st Level: When you activate Downing Strike, you may use it against as many different enemy creatures who trigger it as you have attacks of opportunity available. The effects of Downing Strike on your attacks of opportunity only last until the start of your next turn.
