Bellows Rod
Bellows Rod
- Cost: 11,250 gp
- Weight: 2.5 lbs.
This peculiar rod of steel seems to be shaped like a cluster of clouds formed into a line (giving it a rod-like shape). The surface is lumpy, and not all that easy to grip, being thicker in some places and quite narrow in others. Striations in the steel seem to give the clouds a kind of underlighting effect, making the whole piece quite interesting to look at.
Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast a Air Geyser spell, using up one charge from the rod.
The rod creates a powerful blast of air capable of flinging your opponents around the battlefield. This blast of air affects a 40-foot diameter space (an 8x8 square), at least one square of which must be within 30 feet of the wielder.
Each target in the radius gets a REFL saving throw (with a DC based on the caster level of the rod, as defined in the table below). Those who fail the save suffer an amount of bludgeoning (physical, common) damage based on the caster level of the rod, and are pushed away from the caster's space a number of squares equal to 1 + the caster level of the rod divided by 10, dropping fractions (max 4 at level 30). If a solid object (such as a wall, or column) is encountered, the target strikes the object in the same manner as it would during a normal collision, taking 1d6 points of Collision Damage per square of push they suffered. If the victim was tossed over a precipice, into a pit, or into another hazardous space, it may take additional effects as adjudicated by the GM. Of course, the targets may fall prone to end any forced movement at any time.
A successful REFL saving throw means the target takes half damage from the air blast and negates the push completely.
Air Geyser surges the air in a space around in a most deadly fashion, but it does not actually move that air very far, as the air generally settles back where it originated. Thus, this spell does not dissipate gaseous effects and the like. That requires Gust of Wind or similar effects.
If a targeted creature has spell resistance, the wielder of the rod must first make a Bailiwick skill check against the target's Maneuver Defense. If they equal or exceed this number, the spell is resolved against the target as normal. If the check fails, the spell is cast from the rod (using up a charge) but has no effect on the target creature.
You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
