Frost Giant Glacier (HeavyCR 20)

Chaotic Evil - Colossal - Ground and Aquatic
Vast blocks of ice and snow, reinforced by skillfully laid frostbitten timbers and freezing cold-iron spikes, empowered by the bitter-cold magics of the Aesir, a Frost Giant Glacier is a dark reminder of the long-ago Ice Ages, when the world was the cold and icy domain of the Frost Giants. A vast block of ice with a reavers hull built upon it, a Frost Giant Glacier grinds along the ground and over the water with surprising speed, downhill and uphill, surrounded by mists and bitter chill winds.
The upper reaches of a Frost Giant Glacier are often carved into a fanciful winterscape, with tunnels in aching-pure blue-crystal ice, turrets and battlements, bright-lit dungeons of hard-packed snow, and a hundred other wintry wonders, all mixed in with black iron and wood engines of war and devastation. Crewed by at least ten Frost Giants, and capable of holding far more, a fleet of Frost Giant Glaciers is a vast threat which will demand the attentions of heroes at the least, and in dire cases, the deployment of an animated fortress or even a Crassis engine.

Special Abilities

Icy Fog Blast

Action Type: Swift
Benefit: As a swift action, a Frost Giant Glacier may declare up to three fifty foot squares that are adjacent either to its own space (or another square filled with Icy Fog), to be filled with a bitter cold Icy Fog. This Icy Fog breaks line of sight unless you have cloudsense or some other way of piercing it. If an enemy ship begins its movement inside a square of Icy Fog, its movement is decreased by one square. Once created, Icy Fog persists until the end of the encounter.
Frost Giant Glaciers are immune to the effects of Icy Fog.

Icy Mist Trail

Action Type: Free
Benefit: Every square which is left by the space of the Frost Giant Glacier is filled with Icy Mist. This Icy Mist breaks line of sight unless you have cloudsense or some other way of piercing it. If an enemy ship begins its movement inside a square of Icy Mist, its movement is decreased by one square. Once created, Icy Mist persists until the start of the Frost Giant Glacier's turn.
Frost Giant Glaciers are immune to the effects of Icy Mist.

Calving

Action Type: Triggered Free Action
Benefit: The first time a Glacier has its durability reduced to zero, it is not destroyed. Instead, the wood and reinforced superstructure crumbles and falls away, forming a debris field six squares on a side. At least one square of this debris field must overlap the Glacier's position when it reached durability zero. While it is in the process of falling to pieces, it is considered immune to all damage.
On the round after it was reduced to zero durability or less, at the start of its turn, the Frost Giant Glacier's core iceberg is placed anywhere within the debris field, with any facing. It then sails free of the debris field. Its durability is set to half its normal maximum, it loses the Icy Mist Trail ability, but its speed increases by +1 (to 4 squares).

Combat Tactics

Frost Giant Glaciers Use their Icicle Ballistae and Blizzard Windmills to aggressively attack their enemies, while using their Icy Fog and Icy Trail to blanket the battlefield with terrible wintry whiteout conditions. With their cloudsense the Glaciers can see through the fog perfectly, but if you allow a Glacier to encircle a town with a wall of the Icy Fog and then attack with impunity through that wall, then that town is doomed.
If faced with a pursuing vessel, a Frost Giant Glacier will immediately turn and run, trusting to their Icy Mist Trail to make attacks from behind impossible. They will attack through the mist by expending focus, and will seek ways to circle around and ram, if hard-pressed.
The first time the Glacier is reduced to zero durability the Glacier will Calve, shedding all the upper built structure. The bare core will appear comewhere in the debris field. If the Giants are fleeing they will place the debris field as far from their foes as possible and speed away. If they wish to fight it out, they will re-appear in an advantageous place and press the attack.

Out of Combat

Frost Giant Glaciers make excellent homes and bases for Frost Giants, and it is not unusual to see they parked at or near many Giant settlements. Sneaking into a parked Frost Giant Glacier for various purposes could be the beginning of many an adventure!
