- Weight: 4 lbs.
- Family: Jangle Bangles
Jangle Bangles are a set of heavy bracelets, worn on the wrists, massively constructed, usually of copper, gold, or dweomermetals. They always have one or more loosely attached decorative metal parts, such as massive chain links, copper hoops, heavy lightning-bolt shaped charms, mystical signs denoting aggression, and the like. They may be crudely hammered and chiseled into shape or masterworks of the goldsmith's artifice. They may be plain, highly figured with tool marks, engraved, and even inlaid with cabochons of semi-precious stones such as amber.
All Jangle Bangles, despite their whimsical name, are powerful and dangerous items. Once they are attuned to the wearer, they begin to accumulate vast eldritch power, causing tiny sparks to occasionally crackle and snap between the body of the bracer and the attached decorations. When the attuned wearer makes a successful melee attack (no matter how much or how little reach that attack has), the Jangle Bangle discharges a hefty, jarring shock to their target. This blast of energy inflicts additional damage with every successful blow, and with the more powerful Jangle Bangles, this shock can act as a powerful goad, drawing the fury of the struck foe toward the wielder.
For durable melee combatants, a Jangle Bangle can serve as a useful source of extra damage, and the painfully goading shocks can serve to focus enemies upon the wearer, which can be a useful thing if your allies are delicate.
Sadly, the rattling and clinking bangles hanging from the bracelet, combined with the bright, noisy sparking it gives off, can make being sneaky quite difficult. Of course, if you WANT to draw attention, then Jangle Bangles are one of the most effective ways to undertake this mission.
Once per day, as a free action, the wearer may choose to make the crackling shock of the Jangle Bangle extremely painful and irritating. This inflicts the Vexed status upon the victim they just attacked. This condition is automatic, with no save allowed, as long as the attuned wearer managed to strike the creature's AC.
While this item is worn, the wearer suffers a -5 penalty to all Stealth skill rolls, due to the clinking, crackling, and occasional sparks. The owner of this magic item must wear it continuously for 24 hours to attune it to their aura, and until that time has passed, it provides no benefits to the wearer.
