A Towerkeepers Rod is a sturdy length of battered timber, with black iron endcaps at both ends. When activated, it jolts in the hand and emits a sound like a massive bolt being slammed closed.
Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast an Arcane Lock spell, using up one charge from the rod.
A Towerkeepers Rod casts an Arcane Lock spell upon a door, chest, or portal you touch with the rod, magically locking it for a year and a day. The wielder of the Rod can freely pass any effects created by that Rod (no matter the wielder) as the Rod acts as a key to open any and all active effects it has created. The Rod may be passed to others, may be taken by such actions as Disarm or Steal maneuvers, or by pickpocketing or other circumstances. If the locked object has a lock, the DC to open that lock increases by 10 while it remains attached to the object. If the object does not have a lock, this spell creates one that can only be opened with a Disable Device skill check against a Challenging DC for the creator level of the Rod at the time the spell was cast. A door or object secured with this spell can be opened only by breaking in or with a successful Dispel Magic (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell) or Knock (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell). Add 10 to the normal DC to break open a door or portal affected by this spell. A Knock (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell) does not remove an Arcane Lock; it only suppresses the effect for 10 minutes, or, enough time to complete a typical Skill Challenge.
You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
