This rod is made of copper, with polished amber inset at both ends. When touched it tingles, like being too close to a lightning bolt, and when moved quickly will occasionally emit a faint blue-white spark. It has a comfortable heft to it, and when activated, is wreathed with crackling arcs of electricity.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast a Jolt spell, using up one charge from the rod.

When the rod is activated, it is wreathed in crackling electricity and from this nimbus you can cause a spark to leap forth as a Ranged Touch Attack. If successful, this inflicts Electricity (energy, common) damage as indicated in the tables below based upon the Caster Level of the rod.

There is no saving throw for this effect, but if the ranged touch attack misses, it inflicts no damage.

If a targeted creature has spell resistance, the wielder of the rod must first make a Bailiwick skill check against the target's Maneuver Defense. If they equal or exceed this number, the spell is resolved against the target as normal. If the check fails, the spell is cast from the rod (using up a charge) but has no effect on the target creature.

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
