Muleback Cords +1
- Cost: 500 gp
- Weight: 10 lbs.
- Family: Muleback Cords
Muleback Cords are a length of cordage which simple, hardworking folks will tie, wrap, and wind in a reinforcing loop around their shoulders and upper back. These cords have the mundane function of holding back your shoulders, allowing you to carry, lift, and move heavier burdens without hurting yourself.
Magical versions of these humble lengths of cord, like most magical versions of simple things, can come in a ridiculous array of versions. Delicate silken twine, no-nonsense hemp rope, or huge bulging ropes of strange magical fibers, all can be muleback cords. These cords can be plain rope, or wildly decorated, with exotic materials like peacock feathers, roc down, truemetal wires, embedded lumps of coal or jet, silverstones, blocks of dural, or even gemstones nestled into the gaps between the strands.
All of these fancy or plain versions all perform the same actions, namely, they infuse the wearer with a deep, tireless well of power.
Muleback cords don't make your actions any more forceful or damaging in most circumstances. The explosive force needed to inflict injury with conventional weaponry is not what cords impart. Muleback cords infuse the wearer with a deeper, broader sort of power, the sort of steady, relentless might that allows you to carry massive burdens all day, that allows you to take up a pick and shovel and dig a hole straight through a mountain range, the sort of unflinching might that allows you to drag a bridge off its foundations in the middle of a hurricane.
Even at this, the humble muleback cords are not the be-all and end-all of might. If you want to be able to carry around castles on your back, you need to look at Brobdingnagian Armor. But muleback cords will stack with all other sources of additional carrying capacity, and the steady, driving quality of the strength derived from the cords are nearly unique.
